April 6th is the International Day of Sport for Development and peace; on this day the United Nations acknowledges the role that sports play in driving social change.

On this day Moving the Goalpost will host a virtual event to amplify the voices and the role of adolescent girls, women and young people who are using sport as a platform to positively transform their communities and conserve the environment.
The objective of the event is to:

  • Promote shared learning build collaboration and to highlight how sports for development and other actors can include and have women at the center of conservation initiatives in the community.
  • Discuss the alarming effect of climate change on the lives of women and girls since they are most reliant on natural resources for their livelihoods and have the least capacity to respond to natural disasters, highlight risks and greater burdens from the impacts of climate change due to higher poverty levels.
  • Discuss effective ways of engaging adolescent girls and young women in climate action initiatives; share best practices from leading sports for development organizations and actors.
  • Discuss and recommend specific actions and areas of change.
